Frequently asked questions
Everything worth knowing about Squirrl, the quiet memory of your home.
What is Squirrl?
Squirrl is the app that remembers where your things are kept. It sees your home as a tree: rooms are branches, storage spots are twigs, and your things are the leaves. You take a photo, Squirrl files it away; you ask, Squirrl finds it.
How does Squirrl find my things?
You photograph your things: Squirrl recognises each one, suggests a name and a category, and files it by room and by storage spot. Then just ask in plain language — “where's my passport?”, “the ski gear?” — and Squirrl takes you straight to it.
Is Squirrl free?
Yes, Squirrl is free and installs in a single tap to your home screen, on iPhone and Android alike.
Do I need to install an app from a store?
No. Squirrl is a web app: it adds itself to your home screen and opens full-screen, like a native app, with no App Store or Play Store. On iPhone (Safari): Share → Add to Home Screen. On Android (Chrome): menu → Install app.
Can I share my home with my family?
Yes. Invite the people you live with to contribute to your home; every change shows up in a history that remembers who put what away.
What are the QR labels for?
Print a QR label for a box, a bin or a drawer. One scan and its contents open right in Squirrl — perfect for the basement, the garage or a move.
Can Squirrl help with the shopping?
Yes. Mark what's running low in a tap (“to buy again”) and watch the quantities drop. Squirrl turns it into a clear, shareable shopping list.
Is my data protected?
